Spain: National strike of truck drivers starting October 28, 2024.

Road transport workers in Spain are planning a national strike starting on October 28, 2024. This mobilization, led by the main unions UGT and CCOO, is a response to the government’s refusal to change the retirement age for truck and bus drivers. The unions are calling for the implementation of early retirement measures due to the risks associated with age and the demanding nature of the profession.

If their demands are not met, additional work stoppages are scheduled for November and December, with the possibility of an indefinite strike starting December 23, which could significantly disrupt transportation services during the holiday season.

This movement will impact both heavy vehicle drivers and public transportation, as well as medical transport services, leading to major disruptions across the country. This strike could affect not only daily commutes but also supply chains, especially with crucial periods like Black Friday and the holiday season approaching.

These repercussions are prompting authorities to find a swift solution, although negotiations remain at a standstill.
